define & describe conflict resolution -
1. I will start by defining what conflict resolution is. Conflict resolution is also pretty self-explanatory. It is the ability to resolve conflict in a professional, respectful, and swift manner. A leader needs to be able to navigate a problem without creating more of an issue. Conflict is natural and normal, it is inevitable and it will arise especially in school or the workplace. With different ideas, personalities, and backgrounds, it is crucial that as a leader or manager, one is able to resolve a conflict. A conflict could occur with a supervisor, employee, vendor, etc. Knowing when and how to conclude a problem is key. As quoted from the reading, "some groups experience little conflict, but most encounter predictable differences in goals, perceptions, preferences, and beliefs." (Bolman & Deal, 2021, p. 179)
Conflict resolution contribution -
2. Conflict resolution contributes to my ability to perform as a leader in a huge way. As a leader, I will be hiring people with unique personalities, backgrounds, ideas, upbringings, ethnicities, etc. With a diverse team, there comes more creativity and success. Additionally, a diverse team also means more conflict, disagreements, and bumps that will occur. When two people on your team/project start to disagree, this is usually when the leader steps in and mediates. If I am unable to resolve conflict between two people whether that be another executive, an employee below me, or a vendor we purchase from, then I will not be able to successfully complete a project/product.
importance of conflict resolution -
3. As we now know, conflict resolution is an extremely important skill to have. It is crucial not just for school and work but for overall life experiences. If I am able to resolve conflict in the workplace as a leader then I will be able to apply that to other aspects of my life. I can bring conflict resolution into my relationships with friends, family, etc. This is why it is so significant that professors include this competency in the organizational leadership program. It is not only vital for leadership, organizational leadership, and management but for life in general too.
conflict resolution and Arizona state university -
4. Throughout my life, I have always been a confrontational person. I have had no problem expressing my feelings. However, as I get older, I seem to have the opposite traits occurring. I find myself wanting to avoid confrontation, fighting, and expressing my needs. Arizona State University has helped me grow out of these bad habits I have progressed into. Through the organizational leadership program, and other courses I have taken at ASU, I have managed to improve my conflict resolution skills. I feel I now have the tools to resolve conflict not only in the workplace but in every aspect of my life too.
Conflict resolution artifact description -
5. The artifact that I have chosen to display that connects to conflict resolution is a module three assignment for Yellowdig. This is from my OGL 343 social processes in organizations class. In this brief paper, I am outlining different strategies to help prepare and prevent teams for managing conflict. I discuss what I believe the best approaches are and how a leader should handle conflict as well.
